Department Description
The Heavy Lift Engineering department is responsible for the concept, basic, and detailed engineering for the installation and removal of topsides and jacket structures up to 60,000 tonnes for both oil & gas and renewable projects. The department ensures safe and efficient project execution by performing structural design, feasibility studies, material take-offs, procedure development, and offshore engineering support.
The department consists of a multidisciplinary team of Heavy Lift Engineers, Structural Engineers and Project Engineers working together in agile teams.
Heavy lift engineers have a wide range of tasks covering the provision of technical solutions as well as writing operational procedures and provision of offshore support. This includes: design of topsides lift plans, destruct zones, (subsea) separation scopes, load transfer operations, platform preparations and completions, TLS-, and crane operation and rigging, provision of client design input.

Job Description
As a Unit Head – Heavy Lift Engineering you will lead a team of nine to twelve Heavy Lift Engineers of all levels: Junior, Medior and Senior; specialists as well as principals. Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
Leadership & Staff Management
- Act as a coach and mentor for the Heavy Lift Engineering team;
- Conduct performance appraisals, provide feedback, and drive career development of your team members;
- Define required staffing levels and skill sets, support recruitment, and manage subcontractor involvement;
- Take end responsibility for the quality of your teams work.
Technical & Quality Assurance
- Provide your team with the necessary support and guidance to do develop high-quality engineering output;
- Review and approve methodologies, procedures, and tools used within the unit;
- Facilitate development of departmental standards, guidelines, and training;
- Stimulate collaboration within the unit and across departments.
Strategic & Operational
- Contribute to the department’s strategy and long-term vision;
- Identify opportunities for efficiency and improvement at unit and department level;
- Manage budgets, planning, and resources for unit activities.
Education & Experience
In order to qualify for the position of Unit head – Heavy Lift Engineering, you must largely recognize yourself in the following profile:
- BSc or MSc in Mechanical, Civil, or equivalent Engineering discipline, preferably with a specialization in Marine/Offshore;
- Typically 10+ years of relevant engineering experience in the Offshore Construction industry, preferably including heavy lift and/or structural engineering;
- Proven leadership skills and experience with focus on: coaching, group leadership, delegation, planning & organizing;
- Technical competence in structural analysis and design of jackets, topsides, and lifting equipment;
- Excellent communication, diplomacy, and problem-solving skills.
