This is a hands-on leadership role, combining operational responsibility with team leadership. You remain closely involved in planning, coordination and follow-up, while acting as the first escalation point for more complex cases. You ensure smooth day-to-day operations, support your team, and drive continuous improvement in how training is organised worldwide.

 

What are the tasks of the Team Lead Learning & Development Crew?

 

As a Team Lead L&D Crew, your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop and deliver the operational plan for the continuous improvement (CI) objectives for L&D Crew processes, systems and crew related performance metrics.
  • Work closely with fellow Crewing Team Leads to ensure alignment and effective collaboration across the department
  • Act as the first point of contact for complex training, certification or planning issues
  • Support and coach the L&D Crew Specialists in their day-to-day activities
  • Prioritise workload and ensure a balanced and efficient distribution of tasks
  • Monitor training compliance, certification validity, deadlines, and potential risks
  • Collaborate with vessels, discipline leads and HR to align on training requirements
  • Maintain strong relationships with external training providers and monitor service quality
  • Ensure clear and consistent communication towards stakeholders
  • Coordinate and oversee training planning for assigned vessels
  • Ensure that all certifications remain valid and compliant with applicable regulations

Education & Experience

To succeed in this role, you should recognise yourself in most of the following profile:

 

  • Experience in a Learning & Development Crew, Crewing, HR or planning-related environment
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to maintain oversight in a dynamic setting
  • A natural ability to guide and support others (prior formal leadership experience is advantageous but not essential)
  • Confidence in handling complex cases and taking ownership of challenging situations
  • A hands-on, structured and solution-oriented approach
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across functions and with offshore teams
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel
  • Willing to occasionally travel to vessels or external partners worldwide
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken; Dutch is an advantage
