Division Description

The Construction Division executes offshore projects, bringing onshore engineering plans to life using advanced, state‑of‑the‑art equipment. Our teams operate powerful machinery and perform complex installation, lifting, and subsea operations.

We work with a strong focus on Operational Control: planning work carefully, executing safely and efficiently, and continuously improving through lessons learned.

Department Description

The Deck Crew is responsible for all lifting, rigging, and cargo handling activities onboard. This includes positioning of loads, coordinating crane operations, and supporting subsea and installation work.

The team consists of Barge Foremen, Rigger Foremen, Riggers, Welders, and Crane Operators working closely with marine, ROV, and technical departments to ensure uninterrupted and safe operations.

Job Description

As Barge Foreman, you are responsible for the planning, coordination, and safe execution of all lifting and deck operations onboard. You report to the Superintendent and play a key role in ensuring operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with procedures.

You lead and coach the deck crew, ensure safe operational execution, and maintain high standards for lifting, rigging, and cargo handling activities. You play a key role in ensuring that all operations are performed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company procedures and offshore regulations.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring safe execution of all lifting activities in full compliance with company procedures and safety standards
  • Coordinating and supervising lifting, rigging, and cargo operations onboard
  • Acting as banksman during crane operations, providing clear hand and radio signals to guide crane operators
  • Leading and coaching deck crew members, including Rigger Foremen, Riggers, Welders, and Helpers
  • Planning daily operations, conducting toolbox talks, and assigning tasks to ensure efficient workflow
  • Overseeing loading, unloading, and sea fastening of equipment, materials, and cargo
  • Preparing, reviewing, and ensuring correct execution of lift plans and work instructions
  • Ensuring all permits to work, risk assessments (WRAs), and safety systems are properly followed
  • Monitoring ongoing operations, identifying risks, and implementing solutions to prevent delays or incidents
  • Coordinating with other departments (ROV, Bridge, Engineering, Survey) during simultaneous operations (SIMOPS)
  • Supporting the Superintendent in planning deck layouts, logistics, and operational execution
  • Ensuring availability, inspection, and proper use of lifting equipment and rigging gear
  • Promoting and actively participating in safety initiatives such as ASAP and Step Back 5x5
  • Conducting regular site visits to ensure compliance with procedures and safe execution of work
  • Liaising with subcontractors, surveyors, and offshore personnel to ensure smooth operations
  • Exercising Stop the Job Authority when required to maintain safety standards

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as Rigger Foreman on offshore vessels
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills with experience managing deck crews
  • Solid knowledge of lifting, rigging, and crane operations in offshore environments
  • Ability to plan and execute complex operations under time pressure
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across departments
  • Proactive mindset with strong safety awareness and problem-solving capabilities
  • Good command of the English language, both written and spoken

Certifications & Training

  • OPITO Rigging Stage 4
  • OPITO Banksman Level 3
  • Leadership training
  • Relevant project-specific certifications (e.g. PIC, spelter socketing)

Certifications

  • Medical certificate (or equivalent)
  • Offshore survival
