Division Description

Working offshore on one of our vessels means that you are at the heart of the action and taking an active part in shaping the future of the offshore industry. Our offshore crew members are dedicated and determined to get the job done efficiently without losing sight of safety.

The marine crew comprises three main teams: nautical, technical and catering. The nautical crew is responsible for sailing the vessel; the technical crew (engineers and mechanics) maintains the installations and equipment on board such as the main engines and electrical plant; the catering crew (cooks and stewards) provides catering and cleaning related services for all crew on board.

Department Description

The Nautical - Bridge Department onboard Allseas’ vessels is responsible for the navigation, operation, and overall command of the vessel. This team, led by the Master and including officers and crew, ensures safe and precise vessel positioning using advanced navigation and dynamic positioning systems.

Job Description

As Chief Mate, you are the second-in-command on the vessel, directly under the Master. You oversee and direct your team in the execution of marine operations, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

 

Your responsibilities include:

 

  • Acting as Bridge Officer of the Watch and taking command of the vessel in the Master’s absence.
  • Leading the shift in the nautical department and ensuring tasks are carried out efficiently and in line with company Safety Management System (AIMS) standards.
  • Operating as Senior DPO (SDPO), coaching and mentoring Junior DPOs and trainees, and creating and executing DP trial task plans.
  • Ensuring continuous route optimization using weather routing software in close collaboration with the Master.
  • Optimizing power consumption by the DP system and other power consumers within the department.
  • Overseeing pipe lay operations, optimizing pipe pull speeds, accelerations, and decelerations in collaboration with the (Senior) Tension Machine Operator.
  • Acting as Ship Security Officer and, when required, taking responsibility for the onboard HSE department.
  • Ensuring all Firefighting, Lifesaving, and SOPEP equipment is maintained in good condition and that maintenance is properly administered.
  • Issuing work instructions to the deck team, holding toolbox talks, and ensuring project safety inductions are performed.
  • Maintaining direct communication and coordinating activities with all relevant departments, and arranging ship-to-ship logistics.
  • Organizing and conducting emergency drills and exercises, supporting incident investigations, and ensuring proper shift handover.
  • Keeping all personal documentation, such as passport, seaman's book, medical certificate, COC/COP, and safety (STCW) training certificates up-to-date and valid.

Qualifications & Experience

To succeed as Chief Mate at Allseas, you should have:

 

  • Maritime education and compliance with all STCW requirements, according to the applicable Allseas norms
  • Minimum 8 years of experience as an Officer of the Watch.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a DPO working in the offshore oil and gas, construction, or dredging industry.
  • Minimum 5 rotations of experience as First Mate on a pipelay vessel actively engaged in pipelay
  • In possession of COC with competency level II/2 and IV/2 “Master with NO limitations”.
  • DPO Unlimited certification.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • B2 level English proficiency (spoken and written).
  • Fulfilment of all training and qualification requirements in accordance with the applicable Allseas norms
  • Decisiveness, excellent communication, leadership, analytical, problem-solving, reporting, and coaching skills.
