Division Description

Working offshore on one of our vessels means that you are at the heart of the action and taking an active part in shaping the future of the offshore industry. Our offshore crew members are dedicated and determined to get the job done efficiently without losing sight of safety.

The marine crew comprises three main teams: nautical, technical and catering. The nautical crew is responsible for sailing the vessel; the technical crew (engineers and mechanics) maintains the installations and equipment on board such as the main engines and electrical plant; the catering crew (cooks and stewards) provides catering and cleaning related services for all crew on board.

Department Description

The Technical Department, under responsibility of the Chief Engineer, is vital to the safe and efficient operation of the vessel. In accordance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, this department ensures compliance with standards for machinery maintenance, energy efficiency, and environmental protection. Its primary role is to maintain and operate all mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary systems on board, guaranteeing reliability and safety at sea.

 

Within this department, the Engine Room Engineers ensure the safe and efficient operation of all propulsion, power generation, fuel, and auxiliary systems, maintaining full compliance with maritime regulations and company standards.

Job Description

As First Engineer ER, you are responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of all engine room systems and equipment, reporting directly to the Chief Engineer. You will lead and coach a dedicated team of Engine Room personnel, safeguard safe operations, and ensure optimal technical performance of all machinery essential to vessel operations.

 

Your responsibilities include:

 

  • Ensuring safe execution of all engine room activities in full compliance with flag state, IMO, class, and port authority regulations.
  • Acting as deputy for the Chief Engineer when required and promoting full adherence to the Allseas Integrated Management System (AIMS).
  • Overseeing daily operations, maintenance, and repairs of propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems, keeping the Chief Engineer informed of major works or incidents.
  • Safeguarding equipment reliability by ensuring adequate spare parts, consumables, lubrication oils, and tools are available on board.
  • Leading and coaching Engine Room personnel, managing crew schedules, and conducting performance appraisals to maintain a motivated, high‑performing team.
  • Managing planned maintenance, fault‑finding, and modification works, including proper application of the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Monitoring the performance and environmental footprint of the Power Generation and Propulsion plant, ensuring compliance with project CAMO/ASOG requirements.
  • Maintaining all required administration, including logbooks, maintenance systems, MRV/BULL reporting, and stock records.
  • Conducting regular machinery‑space rounds, maintaining situational awareness, and ensuring toolbox talks and safety inductions are completed.
  • Participating in incident investigations, internal and external audits, vetting processes, and ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Coordinating repair and modification projects during port stays and preparing/executing bunker operations.
  • Creating a safe, reliable, and collaborative working environment while safeguarding the standard of accommodation equipment onboard.

Qualifications & Experience

To succeed as First Engineer ER at Allseas, you should have:

 

  • At least 2 years’ experience as Second Engineer ER (Shift Leader) on a DP vessel.
  • At least 5 years’ total ER experience, including 2 years on a DP vessel with diesel‑electric propulsion.
  • Experience as Shift Leader Deck is preferred.
  • Full compliance with all STCW requirements as per internal certification standards.
  • CoC with competency level III/2 “Chief Engineer with no limitations.”
  • B2 level English proficiency (spoken and written).
  • Strong understanding of Dynamic Positioning principles, DP computer control systems, redundancy concepts, FMECA, and maintenance requirements.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office.
  • Leadership, strong communication skills, problem‑analysis capabilities, coaching ability, and decisiveness.

Certifications

  • Medical certificate (or equivalent)
  • Offshore survival
  • Certificate of Competence (or equivalent)
