Division Description

Working offshore on one of our vessels means that you are at the heart of the action and taking an active part in shaping the future of the offshore industry. Our offshore crew members are dedicated and determined to get the job done efficiently without losing sight of safety.

The marine crew comprises three main teams: nautical, technical and catering. The nautical crew is responsible for sailing the vessel; the technical crew (engineers and mechanics) maintains the installations and equipment on board such as the main engines and electrical plant; the catering crew (cooks and stewards) provides catering and cleaning related services for all crew on board.

Department Description

The Technical - Deck Engineers Department onboard Allseas’ vessels is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all deck machinery and equipment. This team of specialised engineers ensures the functionality and reliability of cranes, winches, hydraulic systems, and other essential deck machinery. They perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs to minimise downtime and ensure safe operations.

Job Description

As a Fourth Engineer, you will support the Technical Department in the Engine Room or on deck, depending on operational needs. You will assist in watchkeeping, maintenance, and repair activities for a wide range of equipment, from propulsion and auxiliary systems to heavy-lift and pipelay machinery. Working under the supervision of senior engineers and shift leaders, you help ensure the vessel operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with international standards.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities:

 

  • Perform watchkeeping duties, either in the engine room or on deck, as directed by senior technical staff.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of main and auxiliary engines, pumps, compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, cranes, winches, and other deck equipment.
  • Monitor and record equipment parameters, fuel and oil usage, and system performance.
  • Support fuel and lubrication oil transfers and ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.
  • Identify and report technical defects, damage, or abnormal conditions.
  • Participate in planned maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment overhauls.
  • Keep work areas clean and operationally ready, whether in machinery spaces or on deck.
  • Take part in emergency drills and carry out duties as per the station bill.
  • Follow Allseas’ safety management systems, including Permit to Work, Toolbox Talks, and Stop Work Authority.
  • Proactively develop technical skills and knowledge to handle both deck and engine-related systems.

Qualifications & Experience

 

  • STCW-compliant Engineer Officer of the Watch (EOOW) license or equivalent, or a strong mechanical/hydraulic technical background relevant to marine operations.
  • Maritime engineering in large-scale mechanical systems (engine room or deck equipment).
  • Familiarity with propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and/or deck equipment such as cranes, winches, and pipelay systems.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic control systems is beneficial.
  • Experience with planned maintenance systems and watchkeeping procedures is an asset.
  • Computer literacy for logging, reporting, and maintenance management.
  • Fluent in English, spoken and written.
  • Valid seafarer medical certificate and STCW safety training certificates in accordance with Allseas’ training matrix.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to safety, environmental protection, and Allseas’ operational standards.
