Division Description

Working offshore on one of our vessels means that you are at the heart of the action and taking an active part in shaping the future of the offshore industry. Our offshore crew members are dedicated and determined to get the job done efficiently without losing sight of safety.

The marine crew comprises three main teams: nautical, technical and catering. The nautical crew is responsible for sailing the vessel; the technical crew (engineers and mechanics) maintains the installations and equipment on board such as the main engines and electrical plant; the catering crew (cooks and stewards) provides catering and cleaning related services for all crew on board.

Department Description

The Technical - Engineers Department onboard Allseas’ vessels is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and repair of all mechanical systems on the vessel. This team of skilled engineers and technicians ensures the reliability and efficiency of engines, power generation systems, propulsion systems, and other critical machinery.

Job Description

As Second Engineer ER, you are responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all engine room equipment, Reporting to the First Engineer ER and supervising the ER crew in your shift.

 

Your key will responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

 

  • Ensuring a safe engine room watch in line with STCW A-VIII/2
  • Acting as deputy for the First Engineer ER when required by the Chief Engineer.
  • Promoting and ensuring tasks are carried out efficiently and in accordance with Allseas Integrated Management System (AIMS) standards.
  • Immediately informing the Chief Engineer and First Engineer ER of any condition or incident affecting vessel safety, operations, or personnel.
  • Supervising planned maintenance, fault finding, and repair activities.
  • Ensuring all operational fluid levels (fuel, lubricating oil, bilge, sludge, etc.) are adequate.
  • Completing timely administration, including planned maintenance and statutory logbooks.
  • Ensuring reliable, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective operation of Power Generation and Propulsion plants.
  • Conducting thorough rounds of machinery spaces to monitor and control equipment operations.
  • Maintaining situational awareness of ongoing work and equipment status in machinery spaces.
  • On construction vessels: monitoring deck technical equipment, assisting the construction department, and supporting the ROV department as needed.

 

You will also exercise “Stop the Job” authority if safety or compliance is at risk, and take immediate steps to ensure safety of the vessel and crew.

Qualifications & Experience

To succeed as Second Engineer ER at Allseas, you should have:

 

  • Maritime engineering education and compliance with all STCW requirements.
  • CoC with competency level III/2 “Second Engineer with NO limitations”.
  • At least 5 years’ engine room experience, including 1 year on a DP vessel with diesel electric propulsion
  • At least a first experience on dredging or offshore construction vessels
  • Experience in the engine room as Third Engineer is preferred.
  • B1 level English proficiency (spoken and written).
  • Good knowledge of Dynamic Positioning (DP) operations.
  • Full understanding of all identified failure modes (FMECA) implications.
  • Knowledge of equipment redundancy, availability, and maintenance requirements.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Fulfilment of all training and qualification requirements in accordance with Allseas’ Entry Level Matrix.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, decisiveness, leadership, and problem analysis skills.

Certifications

  • Medical certificate (or equivalent)
  • Offshore survival
  • Certificate of Competence (or equivalent)
