Division Description

Working offshore on one of our vessels means that you are at the heart of the action and taking an active part in shaping the future of the offshore industry. Our offshore crew members are dedicated and determined to get the job done efficiently without losing sight of safety.

The marine crew comprises three main teams: nautical, technical and catering. The nautical crew is responsible for sailing the vessel; the technical crew (engineers and mechanics) maintains the installations and equipment on board such as the main engines and electrical plant; the catering crew (cooks and stewards) provides catering and cleaning related services for all crew on board.

Department Description

The Nautical Department, under the responsibility of the Master, plays a crucial role in the safe and efficient navigation and operation of the vessel. In accordance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, this department ensures compliance with standards for navigation, safety, and crew competency. The Bridge team, supervised by the Chief Mate, works alongside the Safety and Catering teams to maintain a secure and efficient onboard environment.

Job Description

As Second Mate, you are essential to the safe navigation and operational control of our offshore vessels. You’ll work on marine operations worldwide, reporting to the Chief Mate and First Mate, and collaborating with a skilled bridge team and other departments.

 

Your responsibilities include:

 

  • Acting as Bridge Officer of the Watch during sailing, anchoring, port operations, and DP mode, ensuring all activities comply with the Master’s standing orders, international regulations, and good seamanship.
  • Operating the Dynamic Positioning (DP) system in accordance with regulations, company procedures, and project requirements.
  • Executing DP trials and task plans as directed by the First Mate or Chief Mate.
  • Preparing voyage plans, monitoring weather forecasts and navigational warnings, and updating nautical charts and publications according to the latest Notices to Mariners.
  • Maintaining close collaboration with survey, tension machine, ROV, and other relevant departments to optimize vessel positioning, pipe pull speeds, and power consumption.
  • Ensuring all personal documentation (passport, seaman’s book, medical certificate, COC/COP, and STCW training certificates) is up to date and valid.
  • Controlling the ballast system as directed, being aware of vessel stability, and coordinating ship-to-ship logistics in liaison with the Barge Foreman and senior officers.
  • Monitoring safety, health, and environmental activities, assisting where necessary, and recording all events and incidents in the vessel’s log.
  • Keeping record of the vessel’s Daily Progress Report (DPR) for the nautical department and, in absence of a Field Engineer, administrating and sharing the DPR with relevant parties.
  • Carrying out general marine operations, vessel maintenance, and inspections, including maintenance of firefighting and life-saving appliances.
  • Assisting the Ship’s Security Officer and ensuring ISPS requirements are adhered to at all times.
  • Organizing and conducting emergency drills and exercises, and being part of the emergency teams as per the vessel’s Station Bill.
  • Acting as Helicopter Landing Officer or Radio Operator on request

 

Qualifications & Experience

To succeed as Second Mate at Allseas, you should have:

 

  • Maritime education and compliance with all STCW requirements as per AIMS-VSL-MTX-0532-01 “Crew Certification Quick Reference Guide”.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Officer of the Watch.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as (Junior) DPO in the offshore oil & gas, offshore construction, or dredging industry
  • In possession of COC with competency level II/1 and IV/2 “Officer in charge of a Navigational Watch with NO limitations”.
  • DPO Unlimited certification.
  • HLO (OPITO) and Offshore Radio Operator certification (CAA).
  • Good knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • A2 level English proficiency (spoken and written).
  • Fulfilment of all training and qualification requirements in accordance with the applicable Allseas norms
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
