Division Description
The Marine Division on board forms the core manning that operates and maintains the vessel as per IMO requirements. It consists of the Nautical department, which contains the Bridge Team, HSE Team, Medic, Ship Security Officer and Catering Team, and the Technical department, which contains the (deck) Engineers Team, Electricians Team and Warehouse Team.
Department Description
The Nautical Department, under responsibility of the Master, plays a crucial role in the operation of the vessel. Under International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, the roles and responsibilities of this department are defined to ensure the safe and efficient navigation and operation of the ship. The roles arre essential for the smooth operation of a seagoing vessel, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficient navigation. The IMO's Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) define the competencies required for each position. On Allseas' vessels the Nautical Department consists of the Bridge Team under supervision of the Chief Mate, the Catering Team Team under supervision of the Catering Manager, the HSE team under supervision of the (Senior) Safety Officer and the Medic. The Department works in close collaboration with the construction Department to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Job Description
As Third Mate, you are essential to the safe navigation and operational control of our offshore vessels. You’ll work on marine operations worldwide, reporting to the Chief Mate and First Mate, and collaborating with a skilled bridge team and other departments.
Your responsibilities include:
- Acting as Bridge Officer of the Watch during sailing, anchoring, port operations, and DP mode, ensuring all activities comply with the Master’s standing orders, international regulations, and good seamanship.
- Operating the Dynamic Positioning (DP) system under supervision, following company procedures and project requirements.
- Preparing voyage plans, monitoring weather forecasts and navigational warnings, and updating nautical charts and publications according to the latest Notices to Mariners.
- Maintaining close collaboration with survey, tension machine, ROV, and other relevant departments to optimize vessel positioning, pipe pull speeds, and power consumption.
- Ensuring all personal documentation (passport, seaman’s book, medical certificate, COC/COP, and STCW training certificates) is up to date and valid.
- Controlling the ballast system as directed, being aware of vessel stability, and coordinating ship-to-ship logistics in liaison with the Barge Foreman and senior officers.
- Monitoring safety, health, and environmental activities, assisting where necessary, and recording all events and incidents in the vessel’s log.
- Carrying out general marine operations, vessel maintenance, and inspections, including maintenance of firefighting and life-saving appliances.
- Participating in emergency drills and exercises, and being part of the emergency teams as per the vessel’s Station Bill.
- Maintaining direct communication and coordinating activities with all relevant departments involved in operations, ensuring efficient and safe execution of tasks
Qualifications & Experience
To succeed as Third Mate at Allseas, you should have:
- Maritime education and compliance with all necessery STCW requirements
- Preferrably, a first experience on a dredging, pipe laying or construction vessel
- In possession of COC with competency level II/1 and IV/2 “Officer in charge of a Navigational Watch with no limitations”.
- Good knowledge of MS Office applications.
- Proficient in the English language (spoken and written).
- Fulfilment of all training and qualification requirements in accordance with the applicable Allseas norms.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Minimum one-year experience as an Officer of the Watch (not required if internship completed within Allseas and with Master’s recommendation).
- Ability to act as Junior DP operator under supervision.
- Ability to prepare voyage planning, monitor weather, and update navigational publications.
- Familiarity with vessel stability, ballast control, and ship-to-ship logistics.
- Experience in collaborating with survey, tension machine, ROV, and other departments.
- Commitment to maintaining up-to-date personal documentation and compliance with company safety management systems
